I keep checking in and I really hope there will be some Atlanta shows this year. My Son is safely back home in Georgia after 9 years in the Army and I'm dying to drag him out with me and let him hear the good stuff. I figure maybe a visit South might come after the release of the new album. All I really know anymore is to take nothing for granted.

Peace Ya'll

Thank you Sir. We'll look forward to it.

BTW: That train whistle was not an accident. It was a small cosmic gift to someone who was listening.

Still wish you would come for a show in Miami. Maybe I can get Tad to talk you into it. I know where you could get all the great jamaican food you could ever want for free...

And does anyone think it's funny that Darrell is ranked a Newbie based on post counts? I would think the system might give him a little leeway, like "Head Newbie" or something  Grin

I like "Newbie Poobah". It has a certain ring to it.

I've been going to Atlanta vicinity shows for ten years now. Only recently did I find out that there's been a home girl from back in my neck of the woods attending most every show and I didn't even know it. We'll finally get to meet this time. That's a bonus. Hey Tammy.

The week of the show will be a busy week.

Start's off with celebrating 30 years with one woman. Who'd a thunk it?

Then Darrell at Eddie's. I hope to bring my Son and introduce him and some younger people to Darrell's art. Too many of us old farts in the demographics. It takes awhile to developed this highly-refined sense of what's really worth spending your time on and they need to start now - for their own long-term good.

Then the Atlanta Jazz Fest - returning to Piedmont Park after a long absence. The Fest was never that crowded and we always spent most of the day so about 15 years ago I took a small grill and barbequed some ribs real slow like you're supposed to. I could've sold em a dozen times. These days they probably wouldn't allow that behavior but it s/b fun anyway.

30 years.  "Awesome" is an over-used word in today's lexicon, but clearly applies in this case.  Congratulations.

Been working on bringing that younger crowd myself.  My son has become a fan, and we are looking forward to a trip to Kalamazoo next week....

Thanks Kevin. It is kinda amazing considering the 'Honeymoon' was spent at Ralph Stanley's place in McClure. How romantic is that?

Heh.  I'm from Michigan, so ya lost me there.  I had to google Ralph Stanley to find out where McClure was, and discovered the museum.  Now I am slightly more educated, and much more interested.  I'll be adding this place to the list...

Kevin, if you're planning on time in Southwest Virginia you need to check out http://www.thecrookedroad.org. Before it was the title of Darrell's new album it was Virginia's Heritage Music Trail. Dr Ralph's museum's on it.

I'm not sure what the current Hills of Home Park configuration is or how it's changed since I was there last but...Carter Stanley's grave was on the grounds and they used to have a speaker sitting on top of his headstone that played his music and interviews. Originally the stage sat down in the gulley so it was a natural little amphitheatre. That had changed to a fenced in performance area on a flat section last time I was there.

It was a wild scene back in the late 70's. There were good Godly men and women up front listenin to the words and music while wild Hippies partied and danced in the back- often oblivious to the message and many other things. I'm pretty sure Ralph got some complaints. Ralph was never a fan of beer-drinkin anyway. He thought it low class. That's probably why they fenced it off.

BTW, if you have a hankerin to tie the knot, nearby Clintwood is known for being a place you can get a license, get a blood test, and get married - all within about an hour and without  driving around.
