Cayamo 2009
i just returned from a week on the seas as part of the cayamo cruise (sixthman)
the food bountiful, the destinations beautiful, the time relaxing
and
the music? on-going and diverse and great-- i got to hear zac brown's
band & sit in with them-- got to sing a duet w/ tift merrit -- got
to hear joe ely w/ an incredible accordionist: joel guzman -- heard new
songs from joe's new record w/ the flatlanders-- i got to hear a great
atlanta based player/singer: clay cook (w/zac brown) also sitting in w/ shawn mullins
(shawn is the real deal)- this is a festival like no other AND it is on
the high seas & it has a lot of cross-pollinization of
players/singers sitting in on sets & jamming -- i, myself had matt
mangano, luke bulla & jano rix sit in on a pretty rocking set of
mine-- also got to sing a tom t hall song via buddy miller on the big
stage for the "no buddy" set on the final night- "that's how i got to
memphis"
and, would i do cayamo again? absolutely...and you should too, if you like music
and
this week recording on a project w/ tim obrien producing kate macleod,
and then a night of friends joining me at the bluebird cafe nashville
for the americana assoc. (w/ tim o, john cowan, beth nielsen chapman,
danny flowers, and maybe more)
the down side of spending a week on the ocean-- even as i type
this, i still feel like i am on the ship- the computer screen is stable
but out of the corner of my eyes, the world is moving like a slow,
wobbly wave
