the ark is one of the oldest existing listening rooms in the country - one of the original "folk" rooms - in the town of ann arbor michigan - university of michigan- i have played there several times with always a minimal turn-out-- sometimes in competition w/ some sporting event- one time during a final episode of survivor or american idol (is there really a difference in the 2 shows?) but this visit in april of 2009 was different- i had the best crowd i have had at the ark- so it all went real well -- and the sound was good -- there is a real sonic reason why a venue like the ark could be called a listening room-- it ain't just because people are quiet...it is also that the room sounds good & the pa system is really good so i can play the full dynamic spectrum (you can whisper and be heard)

so, i brought the dobro, i brought the banjo & guitar & my cousin (originally from kentucky) brought the fudge...seriously! so at encore, i came out w/ the chocolate fudge & passed it out to the audience (i kept the peanut butter fudge in the dressing room) - a good time was had by all

you will hear some usual suspects of songs (banjo clark, miracle of living & you'll never leave harlan alive) but maybe done a little different than other times -

and with this episode, i will put new moon/new music in suspension for just a little while, as we have mucho things planned for you over the next few months w/ the release of a crooked road my new double cd out on may 25 - i want to thank jen balzer website & stephanie hudacek who labor behind the scenes to get this out to you
