Hello Everyone!

We had such a wonderfully successful songwriting class in Costa Rica over the New Years Holiday that we wanted to do it again, soon, this time in Nashville. We searched around and found the right place; the Scarritt Bennett Center is an ideal spot for this writers intensive. It's in the heart of Nashville, has beautifully landscaped grounds, gothic architecture, on site affordable food and accommodations, and is uniquely positioned in walking distance from Music Row, Vanderbilt University and locally owned restaurants and coffeehouses.

What we are offering is 4 days of deep creative work, community building, and focus on the creative process via: songs. We call this an intensive because the process is indeed intense. We plan on working with each of you to help you improve your own writing. By presenting our own songs in class and discussing how they came about and by students presenting their songs or songs-in-progress in class, we will work on the nuts and bolts of of songwriting as well as discussing the spiritual concepts that fire the creativity behind the songs. We will work together mostly as a class; and, we will work one on one to mentor students in their work. Students will have a nightly song share to learn from one another and to support one another. Our focus will be, as always, on how to dig down deep into our selves and come up with our universal experiences, then, how to tell these truths in our songs. We will offer personal insights, hard earned lessons, our own experiences, and we will have guest teachers/master songwriters for 2 mornings of our intensive. (Note: this intensive will be held in Nashville, yet will be in no shape or form “Nashville” or Music Row or “hit” songwriting.)

We will create a community to share songs, exchange ideas, and get feedback and support from each other because we believe a supportive community is a vital part of developing our own unique writers voice. And on the final night, Mary & Darrell will put on a show for the entire community (students & the public) at the Bluebird Cafe.

Accommodations and food reservations are to be made directly through the Scarritt Bennett Center by each student. Rooms are either $62 plus tax per night for deluxe room, or $45 plus tax for standard room. We suggest you arrive on Sunday night, May 24th, and stay 5 nights, departing Friday morning May. 29th. The total fee for room and food depends on which room you choose. Scarritt Bennett Center will have info on transportation to/from Nashville Airport.

The course fee for the Songwriting Intensive Workshop is a $655 flat rate, which includes food (3 meals per day Mon/Tues/Wed and 2 on Thurs), and is payable by credit card by registering here.

Cancellation policy:
Songwriting INTENSIVE registrations that are canceled before May 15, 2009 will be subject to a $20 non-refundable charge, to cover credit card company fees. Registrations that are canceled on or after May 15, 2009 will be subject to a non-refundable $175 fee, to cover food charges as well as the credit card company fees. For any cancellation after May 20, 2009, please contact Stephanie: stephanie@darrellscott.com. Room reservations made through the Scarritt Bennett Center are subject to their cancellation policy.
